Nine children in Alexandria
Régine Mizrahi was born on 21 September 1924 in Alexandria, Egypt, to Yaacov Mizrahi and Frida née Duek, the daughter of Eliyahu Duek HaCohen. She was one of nine children: Ester (later Zilberman), Fortune (Baralia), Rose (Politi), Jannete (Beressi), Régine, Shmuel (Sami), Eli and Albert (Berto).
Aviva
She did not like the name Régine. She came to the Land of Israel on her own, before the rest of the family and before 1948, and there she took the Hebrew name Aviva, "spring".
Beit HaShita
At Kibbutz Beit HaShita she met David Nahmany, born in Casablanca in 1925, who had also come ahead of his family. They married on 8 May 1947, a year before the state was founded. Their daughter Tsilla was born in 1948 and their son Ilan in Kfar Saba in 1952.
Her sisters' families followed from Egypt: Rose Politi's children were born in Alexandria in 1944 and 1946. Today the Mizrahi descendants number in the dozens.
22 February 2006
Aviva died in Herzliya on 22 February 2006, the same day as Bolek Guy, her grandson Alon's other grandfather, about fifteen minutes apart, in different hospitals. She is buried in Herzliya.
